Minister for Health Turns First Sod on Bray Primary Care Centre

New HSE Care Centre

Site clearance work will commence on the new HSE  Primary Care Centre in Bray following the official turning of the sod by Minister for Health Simon Harris, T.D., today (Friday 6th July 2018).

Bray Primary Care Centre will bring together a range of services that are currently provided across a number of different locations and includes GP services, Public Health Nursing, Dental, Dietetics, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy and Addiction Services.   In addition, general community adult Mental Health services will be provided at the new Primary Care Centre. Bray Old Folks Association services including meals on wheels will operate from the newly developed centre.

Speaking at the event, Martina Queally, Chief Officer in HSE Community Healthcare East said, "Demand for Primary Care services continues to grow and I am delighted to welcome this significant development in Bray, from which we will deliver the best possible care for the local community.  Our services are constantly innovating, adapting and developing to meet the health needs of the communities we serve. The potential of primary and community based health services to improve health outcomes and peoples experiences of using services is well recognised. The wide range of health services at one location, will ensure an inclusive and integrated approach to service delivery.

"Our highly skilled and valued multidisciplinary teams will continue to provide quality care in this new setting. Co-location of HSE staff and GP’s is a key enabler to the delivery of integrated primary care services. A collaborative team approach is especially valuable in managing complex cases where the input of a number of team members is required.

"I look forward to the continuous expansion of our network of Primary Care centres in Community Healthcare East, and the facilitation of local access to a wide range of integrated services".

Simon Harris, T.D., Minister for Health, addressing members of the local community at the event today, said, “It is a pleasure to officially turn the sod on Bray Primary Care Centre. Primary Care is at the heart of what we do in the Health Service. Making the shift towards primary care, in order to deliver better care close to home in communities across the country, is paramount. It remains a key priority for the Government, is one of the key features of Sláintecare and will be supported by the unprecedented capital funding for the Health service announced in the National Development Plan. This new facility in Bray will provide a wonderful, modern day service to the local community and is one of  5 primary care centres being developed in Wicklow, which will greatly enhance services for the people of the county”.

The Primary Care Centre at Bray is being progressed via HSE Estates in partnership with the private sector through a HSE Operational Lease Mechanism. The HSE will take a fixed term lease for its portion of the facilities. The Primary Care services will be provided by both the Public and Private sector (HSE and General Practitioners) on an integrated basis.

Construction will start next month with works completed by the end of next year.  Bray Primary Care Centre is expected to be operational in early 2020.
